The rule Spotify applies since 2024, what it changes for independent artists, and what to do about it.

Since April 2024, Spotify only pays a track once it has at least 1,000 streams over the last 12 months, plus a minimum of unique listeners. Below that, the track earns nothing.

Why it hurts small artists

Many tracks from independent artists stay under the threshold. Their streams still count for the platform, but not for the artist's income.

What you can do

Use streaming for discovery, and earn from direct sales and support: one purchase or one monthly supporter is worth more than thousands of streams.
