Streaming, distributors, direct sales: what each option pays you, and how to sell to the people who already listen.

Streaming, distributors, direct sales: what each option pays you, and how to sell to the people who already listen.

Streaming gets you heard, direct sales let you live from it. Put your music on the platforms to be discovered, and sell it directly (tracks, EPs, vinyl, limited editions) to the people who already follow you.

The three ways to sell

A distributor (DistroKid, TuneCore…) sends your tracks to Spotify, Apple Music and the rest: you get paid per stream. Online stores (Bandcamp, your own site) sell files and objects. A direct creation platform like HYK brings sales, support and the link with your audience into one place.

What you can sell

A track, an EP with long versions, a numbered vinyl, early access, a beat, a piece of merch. Real examples on HYK: the EP “ULTRA” by Cross Fella with its extended versions (€16.98), and the vinyl album “Reloaded” by Alchi in a limited, numbered edition (€17).

Setting your price

Start from what you would sell at a show, not from what streaming pays. A simple release at a small price and a pricier limited edition work well together.

Finding your first buyers

They are already there: your Instagram followers, your contacts, the people around you. Announce the release, put the link in your bio, follow up a week later.

What you keep

On HYK, you keep 100% of your price. The buyer pays a 10% service fee and the payment fees on top. You withdraw your money whenever you want, through Stripe.

Next step: Publish your first creation on HYK at app.hyk.media. Then read the Pricing and First Sale guides.
